Solo Exhibition
Curated by Margo Grant and Irina Matinian
Deep art of Evgeniya Volzhanskaya blooms on the riveting Russian culture and focuses on social problems as well as conflicts and contradictions between our actions and feelings. It leads a philosophical discussion about some patterns in our behavior we are often not aware of ourselves.
Considering Evgeniya took the canvas and brushes almost at the same time as she started to crawl, no wonder that her art is profoundly intertwined with her life and serves as a way to express her state at the moment of creation. Her resettlement first from a provincial city to the capital, and from there to Georgia, love and hate, rebellion against oppressive and dogmatic legacy of post-Soviet art schooling, – all this will come at you from her paintings.
In her latest paintings Evgeniya raises the topics of femininity and the search of the sense of self.
In her latest paintings Evgeniya raises the topics of femininity and the search of the sense of self. She thinks, that in the constant uncertainty we live in, it is crucial to study it through the art to find new meanings to it.
